Hi everyone!

I have a question regarding the concrete control joints, or one of them in particular.

Contractor just poured the concrete today and will be back in the morning to cut the control joints.

The pic is the layout for the joints and marked in red.
My concern or question, is where the joint will be in relation to the 2 post car lift, do you think the joint is far enough away from the post base on the left side?

Center of left post to the control joint will be approximately 2'-4".

Thanks

I just poured a slab a month ago and spent a fair amount of time looking into that stuff... from what I read at least 6" from the saw cuts so you're fine. I'm assuming your slab is at least 4" thick near the lift? Supposedly you can install a lift with two 6"-8" thick 4'x4' pads poured where the posts will be.

If you are concerned use epoxied anchors. Superior to wedge in every way when installed correctly and won't break a chunk out next to the expansion joint.

Imo if you are a foot away then you should be fine with wedge anchors.

Hopefully there's reinforcing steel in there to keep the slab aligned across the saw cut.

Thanks guys.

Yep, the concrete is 6" thick with 5/8" rebar, 6" welded wire mesh and fiber. I only put rebar in the "lift bay". This project is quickly going to exceed the budget.

The slab guys just cut all the control joints cleaned up and headed to the next job.

Glad the mix is in the hole before the price increase! 63 yards of gray goop.

I'm not a structural engineer, but that looks good to me.

Thank you! :)

To the best of my recollection saw cut control joints have been accepted for years.

I was concerned with how close the joint was to the lift post, not the type of control joint. I think I will be good though. :)

I made sure the GC was going to put in saw cut joints instead of hand troweled joints. I can't stand wide *** joints when a creeper or shop chair or anything with wheels move across them.
