Got the floor framed (the easy part). Going to pickup the insulation tomorrow or Monday.

Didn’t feel like a HD run today.

Instead, I ran all the Toredo-fours over the jointer and through the tablesaw.

Happy to know I got enough studs to complete the kiln out of one log. With plenty left for other projects.

Note to self: always use the dust collector when ripping foam insulation on the tablesaw.

Insulation and plywood floor ✅

Gotta like having spare - and free! - dimensional lumber around!

How long did the slabs dry before you turned them into 2x4's? I'm assuming you can't have much warping once they've been incorporated into a wall, even if they weren't completely dry.

You've never seen a stud bow out of a wall in the middle of the drywall? Lucky you. My first house had two on different walls.

I cut the 2xs straight out of the log.
Currently, they are +/- 20% MC.

I’m thinking they’ll dry out a bit more once they’re in the kiln🙄

Seen it, fixed it.

Guess I’ll do the same here if it comes up.

Was hoping to stand walls this afternoon, but a last minute change in the roofline happened.

Set up a a bit of a fixturing jig and got my rafters set up.

Maybe tomorrow on the walls🙄

Not much in the way of progress, but an important step. Sealing the plywood deck.

Had a couple gallons of industrial primer that really needed to find a home!

The days have been sunny here lately, but the nights have been at the dew point with lots of condensation.

Looks good, Riv.
I had a lot of stuff painted Safety Blue or Vista Green when I worked out of the plant. They used to encourage us to take leftover paint home; cheaper than paying to dispose of it.

The goal is to match the angle of the glazing to the latitude of your location.

I’m at 48.257

I missed by less than 1/2 of a degree😬

But now your lumber won’t dry properly.
The planer will bring it back into spec👍

Skipped out of work early today.

Got all the rafters installed. Still need to finish up the little angle blocks that make up the peak.

Had a few twisted 2xs. Had to use the old fashioned board tweaker

Brought home a stray TJI from the boneyard.

Figured it would work great for the air/fan baffle.

Laid out and cut the openings for the four solar fans.

Please note that this is not a structural member in an engineered system before you bring up cutouts in a TJI.

This will only hold up the four fans, and direct air (about 1000 CFM at peak).

Any added structural benefit is just a bonus.

Hey, it looks good( perfect for that application)-and the price was right.

Now you just have find some surplus Lexan.
That’s actually the one item I don’t mind spending money on. I want the new, scratch less, just peeled pretty stuff😆.

One more pic with todays task of adding the ridge member, baffle, and bird-blocking.

The smell is dissipating as it dries.

I’m assuming the trend will continue 😬
You should set up a camera when you make the first run.

I'd be worried that you pop some fresh milled, wet lumber in there and let it cook for a while, then when you crack the door you get hit with THAT SMELL.

Could make a great video the first time you open the door.

Plan is to let it cook without any wet wood in it.

Then do the insulation and paint.

At that point there may not be any smell.

I was thinking about this the other day, if I could come up with cheap lumber could be good to dry firewood.

Easy day today, like Sundays should be.

Framed in the man door, and the loading door.

Need to pick up some more OSB, but that wasn’t happening today.

Had to take a break from the kiln.

Time to make little momma happy.

Not a bad evening’s work.

Had to make her work for it though.

After the warmest, driest October ever, we finally have substantial rain in the forecast.

Time to get it covered up.

I was up near you yesterday and I felt like I was a brisket in a smoker! :wtf: Let’s hope the rain will get rid of all this smoke.

Yes! This smoke is getting really bothersome.
That and the lower temps hitting the dew point makes for some really thick fog.
