My brother is looking to buy a new air compressor in the near future. He has a budget of $1000 to spend, that must include the shipping. He wants to get the best quality, highest CFM, longest lasting one for that money. Which compressor would you buy? I was looking at the eaton compressors that kartracer posted and those look like real nice machines. They look much nicer than the consumer line of Ingersoll-Rands, with a much lower BS factor. They seem like a no nonsense company. Does anybody have any suggestions or opinions?

consumer line IR use made in india pumps... at least that was the reason given to me by my compressor guy when i asked why he had a whole shelf of broken ones

So I guess the next question would be what voltage does he run?

The next quesiton is is the 220/230/240 volt (hopefully has that in the shop) single phase or better?

220V Single phase. My dad is an electritian so wiring up more is no problem, as long as it is still single phase because thats all he has.

This is the only full size eaton you are going to be able to get for under1k delivered. Its like 15 cfm I believe, which def. isnt bad. Shipping form ohio to NJ was about 200, a bit less I recall. And tell him, even if it puts him over his $1k budget, get the automatic belt tensioner and the extended oil drain. The belt tensioner cuts down on maintenance ALOT! and the extended oil drain keeps things neat when changing the oil (hell than me later lol)

This compressor will be marginal for heavy blasting(probably want to look at a 20-30cfm unit then) but it should run a paint gun with no problem, and will run a die grinder respectably.

^I really don't think the average joe needs anything bigger. 15 CFM @ 90 is PLENTY for just about anything

i definetly agree there are lots of used quincy compressors in that price range
