Filling the 705. Is the correct oil fill in the center of this sight glass?
Is the unloader valve a common sized schrader? It's leaking and I need to replace it.
How do I make amperage measurements. It's a new 3hp Leeson single ph at 230v running the 705 at approx 540 rpm. I have a clamp amp meter. I need directions on how to go about the process of determining the amp draw at the proper intervals and how that applies to maximizing the efficiency of the compressor. It's a beast of a motor at 86lb.
How is it that many of the big-box store compressors sport 5hp single ph motors that weigh less than half of this 3hp Leeson? Does that suggest anything by itself? Stronger torque? Better duty cycle? I'll post a pic of the name/spec plate on the motor tomorrow.
Are there any members here who run a 705 at or near 540rpm on an 80gal tank who might give me an idea of how long this should take to fill to 135lbs from empty?
How can one recognize a 705 clone? Mine is a rebuild that I purchased 15 years ago and am finally getting around to mounting. There seems to be a lot of opinion but few hard facts to go by in determining whether a 705 is genuine or not.
I've heard that the clones use metric fasteners. Mine are SAE.
The best respected compressor service and sales in the area has a brand new SB 705 on the floor with the inter-cooler bottom ports situated on the bottom pointing downward. I mentioned that mine were situated on the sides near the bottom pointing outward. He told me mine was a knock-off since SB never made them that way. I was disspirited. When next I looked at the SB site I noticed the graphic they post describing the 705 in cutaway....
Above that graphic is another that shows them as his were situated.
So were they ever actually manufactured as the cutaway depicts them?
Or is he incorrect?
I noticed myself that some of the admitted knock-offs on the web have only threaded ports intake and output. My 705's output is threaded but also has a two bolt pattern for mounting a gasketed flange.
Mine does not have MADE IN USA cast into the side. The one on the sales floor did.
About 10 years back I telephoned SB and read them the eight or so numbers (i don't have them at hand right now) cast into the pump as well as a letter B inside of an arrowhead symbol on the head. He verified they were all Saylor Beall numbers and but stopped just short of assuring me that the pump was 100 percent genuine (of course I understand that not having the pump in his hands, so to speak).
It might sound like I'm being overly concerned. The business that I purchased the rebuild from, in Grand Rapids, MI, is reputable and sold it as genuine with a rebuild tag affixed to it. It was on their shelves and they were in the process of moving and advertised much of their inventory at steep discounts. I think I remember purchasing it for about 200 dollars after making an offer.
I can post pics and casting numbers later this weekend.
Thanks so much.
