Hi, I'm Brian...and I am a garagemaholic

After MANY years in the saving and planning stages, in 2002 we moved into the house we designed on our computer using 3D Home Architect software. Our friends called it the "garage with attached house" project because it's a 2200 square foot house with a 1600 square foot garage attached, which has an additional 500 square feet of storage space above the large bay. The "everyday" side is 22' wide x 26' deep, and the "fun" side is 22' wide x 45' deep (it widens out a bit towards the back <see pictures>). It has a doorwall in the back facing SW, and a 44" wide fixed staircase to the deep bay's second floor. I still need to finish up some wiring, then get it ready for insulation & drywall. After that (budget con$traint$ notwithstanding ) I'll be ready to start thinking about flooring options.

Luke, the house I 'grew up' (still an ongoing debate ;-) in was built around 1900 with true brick construction.....as in 2 rows of brick seperated by an airspace (!)
I knew I wanted some face brick on our place, but at around $1 per brick installed we could have easily added $50K to the project
We decided to brick the front elevation up to 10', then went with vinyl for the rest. Everything is a compromise, and we felt that while keeping the zero-maintenance aspect was important so was not crushing ourselves with more debt load than was absolutely necessary

I found a picture from last October, when a bunch of car-crazed friends met at our place before going out for a drive around local country roads.
You can't see them all but there were some fun rides; a Lotus Super 7, Honda S2000, Viper GTS, three 944's + a 924 turbo, and a modded SVT Focus.

I can't wait until the warm weather hits again

Just found this site a few days ago..........still digging through the old sections especially the gallery area and enjoying it. We relocated here to Michigan to build the new mustang in Flat Rock. Having bought our house back around thanksgiving last year I am going to be breaking ground on a shop within a month or so.......so the timing of finding this site is right on!
Thought I'd comment on this garage as it is a nice one and even nicer to see a neighbor.....sort of. I am actually south of you probably a half hour........Keith

Jim, we designed the house with the idea of integrating (to the extent anyone could ;-) a large attached garage that from the street gave the impression that the house / garage ratio wasn't nearly as absurd as it indeed is
In terms of getting my wife on board, well....we have always equally shared the toys so although rare gems, gals like her are still out there fellas

Another Milestone..........

We finally got a 2-post auto lift installed
I bought it from a neighbor that relocated to Texas, and had a local company (Station Service & Equipment) do the hard work of moving the lift to our garage. It's a 7000lb capacity 220V Globe that originally came from a Roush facility before my neighbor got it, so it has seen extremely light use (the internals look almost new )

Yes, it appears that it was purchased through the Rotunda program....I'm guessing by Roush Industries.
It's a nice older (& veeeery heavy) piece!

I'm envious as I can't add on to my garage to get more room due to limitations of setback requirements, but I hope to move in the near future to a larger lot (acreage) and build something along the lines of what you have accomplished. Keep those photos coming.

We were in the same boat you were in, so we bought our 6+ acre lot back in 1990......and didn't build until 2002.

Hi Bill,

We used to be deep into Shelby Dodges (had several over the years; 2 GLHS Omni's, a Shelby Dakota and a Shelby Can-Am racer) but that chapter is now behind us.
The garage is still full of cars though, no worries

Thank you!

It's 11' throughout, so just enough for a not-too-tall car to run all the way up with a few inches to spare (the 944 has plenty of room above it- see picture).
