So are scammers prevalent on this site? I put up an ad looking for Wilton vise parts this morning. Received messages from multiple site members with no posts telling me to contact a third party person that has what I need. After some shady emails I have decided to ignore the people that say they have the parts I need. Do others experience this on this site?

I tried an ad in Cars & Parts magazine (a great publication, gone now, like so-many other magazines), for some vintage Ford parts, and I got a response from a helpful fellow in TX who said he had all that I needed, all I had to-do was to send him a money order for the parts. No checks, no credit cards, just a money order.

I decided I wasn't trustful of this. Afterwards I saw a letter to the editor complaining about TX state penitentiary residents scamming classic car owners answering ads for 'parts-wanted.' The TX attorney general had been dealing with this, as a number of people were swindled.

Scammers work when you are driven to believe your getting a good deal.

Everyone seeks out the U-**** Award, and if your very heavy in that direction to looking for those great cheap deals your a target.

It often comes down to are you willing to buy what fell off the truck for cheap.

My thought those that fall for them greed plays a part also.

If it is too good to be true it better becoming from a close relative....

Beware of the scam where you post a wanted ad and the scammer sends you images of what you're looking for at a great price.

The scammer steals the images from Ebay.

Ask the scammer for specific images and they won't be able to provide them. Also check for the same item your looking for on Ebay and see if the images are identical and stolen. Only deal with known GJ members with a long history.

I ran into the same when looking for my Ranchero, I would respond to an ad and then ask for a shot of the driver door edge for the build plate and couldn't produce that for me .
Or the one where the "seller " needed to unload his car because his wife wanted to move back to the Philippines and he was going with her.

I almost got whacked by one of them, looking for a job box for school, this woman had a fairly nice S/O job box for about what they go for, sent the money and of course, nada... filed the "fraud" complaint with paypal (which is why I *never* use the F&F thing unless I know the person personally) and got my money back, turns out "Gloria Sanchez" was actually George Sandoval who was in the psych lock up in Kerrville on a 64 year sentence...

Can you send me a photo of the center of the vinyl pressing showing which version of Boxcar Willie's train songs this is?

Ask for a picture of it that shows some specific thing. Like if you see a bit of a scratch on the side, ask to see a view of the side directly. Essentially, make them take another picture of a feature that you see that's unique to that item or object. If they do t have the item, then they cant do it.
