I'm starting at a brand new shop soon as the lead tech. We will be servicing all makes, but are not taking on really big jobs and are going to be humble enough to accept our limits with some of the "dealer only" stuff. However, we realize that even some of the most basic repairs require a good scan tool and even a scope/gmm. Btw, when I say all makes, mostly domestic, very little euro, some Asian.
In the last place I worked we had a solus pro and an old vantage, but recently replaced it with a pico 4 ch. I liked this setup and was thinking of doing more or less the same with a solus ultra and a 4ch pico. The pico is not as user friendly or as convenient as a vantage pro or other SO scope tool, but more capable. That being said, it is not every day I need 4ch. I am thinking of this route because I think 2 separate tools is the way to go. Also, a solus, pico and laptop is about the same as money as a modis ultra and you get cables, amp clamps, etc with the pico. And It is way cheaper than a 4ch verus.
I guess what I'm asking is what you would do, or have you done?
Also, I have not had my hands on the solus ultra, so what do you think of it, and is it a capable enough tool, especially for bi directional features and tests?
Are there any other options, even in laptop obd software that you use?
