Scan tool dilemma

Hi all. I am in process of buying a new scanner. In the past I was all about the Snap On scanners. Started withe the old brick, then Solus, solus pro, then jumped to Matco determinator(otc genisys I know not snap on)and finally a first gen Verus. Its time for a new one I got rid of the Verus 1.5years ago and I found a great shape Solus Ultra. It's updated to '16 and still supported for updates. All set to buy is and stumbled across a Mac Tools MDT 10. Same price around a year old. I can't for the life of me find any opinions/reviews of this scanner. All i've found are Mac tools own docs. and video. I really was aiming for the Ultra but now i'm on the fence. The Mac unit has all the updates and coverage for '17 and '18 vehicles. I don't do a lot of cars but can do enough to pay for either of these with the updates. Can anyone chime in with a reason for one over the other? Thanks

If you watch Eric O. on the South Main Auto YouTube channel, he has multiple different scanners and he uses them (frequently one will not work correctly with a give car, but another brand will). I don't recall him ever using a Matco scanner even though he has a lot of Match hand and pneumatic tools.

Do you really coverage for '17 and '18 models? Chances are they will be under warranty so you won't use it on them before you upgrade again in a year or two.

Thanks for the youtube about Eric O. I will have to watch it. He's from my neck of the woods which is also cool. I don't need the latest coverage because of the factory warranty. On that note the Solus Ultra that was offered for the same price will get it's last update with v19.4 which will be next year anyhow. Deal is i have my choice for $1300 the Mac MDT10 or the Solus Ultra. I ended up with Mac mainly because it is literally 8 months old and seller has been verified as fully paid off to MAC tools. I look forward to being wireless connection to the car. Only time will tell I guess. Thanks for the input.

I doubt mac makes their own. Snap on may not either, but I would bet they have a huge influence on who does.

I would say as fast as the electronic systems in cars are getting more and more. A scanners biggest challenge is enough system to keep for years to come.

I think the down fall of many scanners is not how they work, the system they are needed for are just getting bigger, better and faster.

There will never be another brick that the sold and serviced, and had updates for decades. The electronic world is moving way to fast for that.

I can not say how any other are upgraded, as I have always had SO line of scan tools. SO are upgraded right on the truck, as long as SO still services the unit.

I believe the Mac MDT 10 is made buy Bosch. Updates are done over WiFi where you might be. Since it is Android based it's no different than a cell phone or tablet update. When I got it the coverage was 2018 Asian only with domestic and Asian on 2017 list. After the update the other night it has all domestic, Asian and euro to June of this year. If I go back to SO I am going to wait for a clean Solus Edge instead of a Ultra but there is a price difference there. I love the size of the Ultra and have used SO scanners so they all interface is familiar. I am going to give the Mac a whirl and see what happens.
