Thinking of getting a good relatively cheap OBD scan tool. Just need it to do basic stuff nothing crazy. Just read and clear codes basically. Looking to stay under 300 bucks. Suggestions?

No need to spend $300 if all you want is OBDII codes and the ability to reset the light. $100-$150 is a more realistic budget. If you want something that reliably does ABS and Airbag then the pricing goes up.

Actron makes some decent units, the CP9135 is a very decent quick reader. Its been replaced by newer models I think but should be quite affordable through ebay.

I have the cheapest Actron that does ABS for some vehicles too. I think it was about $225. Does live data and such. Much better than the more basic model it replaced. I am quite happy with it. Same unit as the OTC one above, just different colors

There is an iPhone app also. I have a regular code reader but the app does the reading on the road live as well.
