Okay so I have started to plan my shed build I think I'm going to go with a shed that is built on pier blocks to keep it off the ground . It is a bit of a wet site so that's one reason. probably 4 to 6 inches off the ground .Will screen in the bottom so that rodents don't get under there. I know a lot of guy's put gravel underneath as a base for drainage and to prevent weed growth. Could I use landscaping lava rock as I have some in other places in the yard that I want to take out ? Or is the lava rock to porus and may retain any moisture that is under the shed ?

Oh and could someone explain building in multiples of 4 ? Does this mean 4x4 ,8x8, 12x12 16 x16 etc ?

People like to build in numbers that are divisible by four so that 4'x8' sheet goods fit nicely and there is no waste. I have always found it silly to build a $40,000 garage and have the size dictated so that one saves $250 on materials. If you are building a little garden shed, maybe I can see it. I know that if I am dropping some serious cash and I can get another two feet to take me to the setback limit, you had better believe I am going to buy extra sheet goods and have some waste. I will be appreciating my extra 24" of space much more than a couple of bucks saved.

As for the rock under the shed... You can use any rock, it won't retain moisture. That said, it is kind of pointless as the soil under it will be wet according to the way you described the site. If you have a pile lying around I can see doing it but I would not buy a load of rock for that purpose. It might keep weeds down, that's about it.
