I bought me what I assumed was an aluminum Schick pipe wrench today for $10.95. It is marked 10(?)" SCHICK SF on one side only, the second digit took a minor hit so I think it says 10" but can't really tell. Anonymous Internet Dudes (aka google search) say the razor company made aluminum and magnesium pipe wrenches in WWII but the ID doesn't seem very "gubmintal". Length is 14" from the static jaw teeth to the bottom of the eye but sometimes stated tool measurements are funny. Condition is good with some minor dings and teeth are surprisingly fairly sharp. I've been wanting an aluminum pipe wrench for quite some time but was refusing to pay new or ebay prices for Ridgids, this one is gonna be a good user for me.
Does anyone know how to tell aluminum from magnesium? It's really light and is all Al or Mg except for the teeth, the other Ridgid aluminum pipe wrenches I've fondled/used were heavier but they had a steel dynamic jaw and nut. Color is medium bright silver with no oxidation.
I also bought me a 14" / ~1.5lb hatchet. I don't think it's very old and I'm not sure who made it. It's marked TG and Use Safety Glasses on one side. The poll was barely beat up and it has a decent concave profile. I was able to save and rehaft the handle with new wedges. It's in the process of refinishing, and is now 13.5" after I cut the fawn's foot square.
