Amazing. Thanks for posting. I was aware of the DBE's, as I noted upthread here...
Note that there are even rarer Schick wrenches out there, including a DBE wrench and an "alligator" wrench, both also aluminum.
But these are indeed the first DBE's we have seen posted on the thread, and I wasn't even aware of the C-clamps until now.
@alinc100 posted an example of the alligator wrench (post #28). But we soon discovered that they also made a strap wrench (see
@Mintgrun 's in post #31). Now we learn about C-clamps. Schick's production was more diverse than pipe wrenches, and apparently much more diverse than what I had turned up in searches before. But I suspect this was all short duration and not planned at the outset. Their TM application in 1953 only mentions pipe wrenches.
I have a few steel heavy duty clamps like this but can't imagine what you would need an aluminum one for
Non-sparking would be one reason... Weight savings, perhaps?
As I said, I wasn't even aware of the C-clamps until now, so research is required.
Ads for the original pipe wrenches hit the weight factor hard. It was their claim ("60% lighter") to fame. And if you look at post #36 upthread, their calculation was spot on. I don't recall them ever pitching them as spark-resistant and note that they had steel jaw inserts. BeCu jaw inserts were available, but I think they came later.
