Schlage lock part

Installed new doorknobs on the entry door to the shop, Schlage “commercial” keyed entry knob.

What is this part for? Not outlined in the directions anywhere.

It’s a key for a private knob with a push button lock.

That looks like the Schlage #M504-271. It’s the knob/lever removal tool for commercial locks.

used to depress the pins that hold the knobs on the shafts so you can remove them

If the knob/lever has a key, you have to turn the key 90 degrees before inserting the pin to remove the handle.

I install/manage literally thousands of Schlage locks per year professionally. Its the knob/lever removal tool. There's a little pin to push in to take it off.
