Hello
Will be helping my son in repair of his newly purchased older home.
It has Doug Fir flooring thruout. Looks to be in good shape with no apparent sanding ever done. I looked in different areas of the house for thickness.
One or two rooms have been painted. Checked no lead.
The upper floors have 2 1/2" planks and the basement has 3 1/8" planks.
The planks look like a tight grain and some areas have grain that looks knotty.
We would like to repair assorted areas where walls once stood. And other areas where the original steam radiator pipes came through, some as big as 2 1/2".
The big question is where you recommend to purchase and what is the going rate on materials? A search of the web wasn't much of a help. The home is located in upstate NY.
Will follow up with pictures this weekend.
Thanx for your suggestions and comments
Bob

I am thinking reclaimed lumber dealer is going to be a good place to check.
Any salvage type businesses around you? They may have contacts.

Another option might be to use his own stock. Take up flooring inside closets, under vanities, etc. Replace the take up areas with new thin (by comparison) flooring, using layers of subfloor to match existing levels.

Sounds like a challenging and interesting project. Post some pics, please!
