I have a hose-reel which needs a new air hose, the hose is all cracked and is now split at the fitting end. What do I need to look for in an air hose?

Whats the downside?

If you deal with cold or don't like hoses that have memory, cannot beat Flexzilla hose. Stays flexible for me well past single digits.

Go to www.airhoseshop.com

The prices are ridiculous but the hose is one of the best quality hoses I have ever used. Dragging them across the floor, chemicals and temperature will kill your hoses quick. These will stand the test of time. I have installed thousands of these in maintenance shops and have never received one complaint. You can pick your colors too. Im a Snap On Tools fanatic and dont use anything else, but I would never use their air compressors, regulators or hoses. They make great tools, thats about it.

Too bad Swan Hose went out. I still have air/garden hose that's over 14 years old. I'll agree with the rubber hose over plastic.

I have the Goodyear orange Pliovic hose from Harbor Freight. Very abrasion resistant and never had any trouble with it not flexing or looping up on the floor.

I really like my Goodyear hose. No memory, works well in all temperature conditions.

I also have a retractable hose reel that also has a black rubber hose, may be Goodyear, don't recall. Works GREAT!

HOWEVER, one drawback to the durable black rubber hoses is that they can mar painter surfaces like wood, etc, when pulling them. As a result, I've taken to using a nice poly or nylon hose inside the house, or when I want to protect any surfaces that might get friction contact.

Pretty much what everyone else is saying, goodyear hoses are pretty good, I've had some cheaper Harbor Freight ones before and the goodyear blows them away.

The longer the hose you get, you'll want a larger diameter. Also depends on the tools you intend to run. I wouldn't get a 50 foot hose less than a half an inch, and a 25 footer less than 3/8ths diameter, but I use powerfull air tools & will be using an HVLP paint gun among other air hungry tools like sand blasters, brake bleeders, etc. etc.
