Hey guys.

Putting up my pole building which is commercial construction and I'm having a hell of time figuring out which doors I need. Also figuring out where to get them.

I had a local place give me a bid on all steel doors/hardware and it came in at $9000! :shocking: And that was only for 6 Doors!

There has to be a place online I can buy them. Just have no idea what style and jam size etc. to get. The plans simply spec 36x80 Walk doors.

How do you pick out the door Type, thickness, etc? etc?

I've attached my floor plan so its easier to picture what I am working with.

36x80 is a standard size door you can get at any of the big box home improvement stores. Commercial doors will most likely have a metal jam set whereas your residential type doors will have a wood jam set. If you are just looking for extra security for the entry points then go with a commercial door and on the inside use a wood frame door.

Depends on code, is this a business or just a shop in your back yard?

Prices can vary and as txvwnut said, if its really commercial your usually talking steel frames. As well you would have a thicker steel door. Verify with your local building permit people and also check with your insurance.

You need to learn about doors. Way too much to tell here. Get the bidder to discuss the bid in detail with you, and give you all the possible options.

The bid probably included the overhead doors, as you only have 3 exterior service doors.

This is just for the man doors. I have the bid itemized. Its another 10k for the 3 overhead doors.

This is fully commercial. I need steel doors between the shop and office and the two outside doors that go into the shop to be to code, the interior doors could be wood frame, but I would prefer steel simply for durability.

My local Home Depot carries standard size Fire Doors for much less than that. Does that include installation? Shop around, they are a standard item thru most any building supply
company.
