You will be glad you went with a slider. Like steven said, get a 60 tooth blade if you go to do any finish work.

I made the initial misktake of buying a cheap plastic mitre box for a small amount of baseboards and other trim I was doing. I sawed through the plastic box by accident and it messed up several of my cuts. Figured if my grandfather did trim using a manual box in his day, I could do the same. Maybe it was because I bought a cheap plastic one.

Anyways, after throwing the mitre box into the trash can, I went to HD and their Dewalt 12 inch sliding compound mitre saw was on sale 20% off and it came with the stand for free.

I have nothing but good things to say about the saw!

I should have done that earlier!

Shiite Porky - I've been using a plastic mitre box FOR YEARS!!!! I have it screwed to a 2x2 peice of ply so I don't knick the floors when I'm cutting moulding. I've done a lot of a few houses with this little baby!

No disrespect, but when I was putting in wood floors, I asked my father if he had a mitre saw. He says sure and I go pick it up.

It was a metal box with an old hand saw. I took it, said thanks Dad and picked up a new cman on sale. It worked like a charm.

The old boxes are definitely old school. Whatever you dig.

They still offer the "flip/combination saws" here in Europe:

i think they´re from Italy .
I don´t know much about Elu - it was before my time... :)

No offence but I've used a couple of those, Elu and the De-Walt one (no difference other than the colour of the plastic as far as I noticed) and they are a very poor compromise for both a ripsaw and a mitre saw.

They don't really have the power to rip well enough (plus the machine doesn't have a big enough top) and the mitre saw is about as awkward as its possible to get.

About as much use as a chocolate fire guard and I wouldn't have one given.
