School Me on Paint Sprayers

So I bought my house about 3 years ago. I have only painted 2 rooms because I hate roll painting. I am fairly skilled, I don't need to tape to cut, but it's still a big pain in the ****.

Also the exterior was painted prior to us moving in, but I know in the next year or 2 I will need to paint the exterior as well.

House is approx. 1700sqft, single story, vaulted ceilings in the main living area. 14x12 covered deck, and fencing around the 1/4 acre lot.

I would like to get the house painted the colors we want(just in time to get orders to a new location I'm sure). I have decided I am much more likely to paint with a sprayer based on what I have seen. However, I know nothing about paint sprayers.

I am not opposed to spending money on a quality sprayer, and also not opposed to "cheaper" sprayers if the reviews are good. I have looked and only found 1 other thread with 2 or 3 recommendations. I don't know what good specs are or anything as far as this goes. So any info is appreciated.

I also do woodworking, so I would like a smaller sprayer for those small projects(not opposed to 2 sprayers eventually either).

Graco, Titan and Wagner are the big three. Watch the daily deals at Home Depot as they have sprayers on 24 hour sales from time to time. Any of the three should get the job done. Go mid-range. You don't need the best and the cheapest isn't going to last.

I have a Graco tradeworks 150...which was their Sherwin Williams model...all they do is change model names/ numbers for different retailers....

I say reverse engineer what you want to do.....find the thickest exterior paint you want to shoot...then find the technical sheet and find the tip sizes and then find a sprayer that matches the paint tip size requirement.

I am looking at staining my house this spring..my may tip size is .015....Sherwin Williams woodscapes want you to shoot tips from.017 and larger...soy sprayer won't work. Lucky the Benjamin Moore exteriors wood stain recommends tips from .012 to .017. needless to say I'll be buying the BM stain not the Sw due to tip compatibility with my sprayer.

If I recall I think I paid $299 or so for the sprayer 7 or so years ago.

When you get to more expensive sprayers the pps can be easily the rebuilt....but I am a homeowner and will never use the sprayer that much.

Spraying interiors is a giant mess on a finished house. Power rollers are about the fastest for that. I just went to my local commercial paint supplier and looked to see what they were selling. I found it about half price online.
Hobby paint spraying usually involves a cup gun, or an HVLP spray gun. These are compressed air guns vs house sprayers which are airless.

Graco or Titan are pretty much the go to sprayers. You want airless with a strong pump to spray latex. I wouldn't recommend spraying interior of furnished house by time you mask everything off from overspray you could have rolled it on. Exterior is different story still need to mask windows and trim but not as critical as interior. Painting is super quick with an airless system but time saved is spent on prep. For wood working I'd recommend a HVLP turbine with traditional cup. Two totally different scenarios with different equipment needs. Recommend pre-catalyzed lacquer for cabinets etc.
