I found myself working on the Jeep plow last night and having to spread some hose clamps farther than I was able to.

I have the small snap ring pliers for things up to ~1" in dia., the set that comes with the 2-3 pairs of different size ring ends. I also have a set of lock ring pliers that spreads a little more, but I need something a little bigger, need more......

what should I get??

Thanks!

Paul

snap on SRPC9000A... depending on whole size, these are tuff, and almost unbreakable. cost about 40 bucks from s/o..you can also get them on 45 and 90 degree.

FWIW I bought the Craftsman Professional snap ring pliers for about $25 and have used them with great success. They are reversible and can be used for both internal and external snap rings... plus they use removable tips!

Not to hijack your thread, but I stumbled across these cable-actuated hose clamp pliers. Can anyone comment on them? Do they work well? Seems pretty useful... every time I try to use adjustable or locking pliers on hose clamps I get ****** knuckles!!

I have a pair of those CMan pliers, pretty handy tool.

I also recently used one of those cable pliers, they worked great. I had to get to a lower rad hose and the hose clamp's ears were facing down, no easy access from underneath the car either. It quickly took care of that.

I bought a pair of Matco cable pliers like the picture above on Ebay. When I had to tackle a clamp on my Windstar that was up against the firewall with no room to even get my hands in there they paid for themselves!
When I had to remove the rubber boot on the inner tie rod end, with no room for my hand these pliers made short work of it. Make sure you get a pair that will lock. Most of these are made by the same manufacturer in France, just the handles are different colors and the lock mechanism may be slightly different! It is a tool you don't use every day, but they are priceless when you do use them!

Sorry to resurrect this thread from the dead but I figure its better than starting another repetitive post.

Can someone tell me in what instances the bent angle snap ring pliers are used for? I'm looking to get a set to service my socket wrenches and am unsure which format to get.

Thanks!

Get both, the best is to get a fixed set. without interchangeable tips. You screw around too much putting the right tips in. the 90 deg are just for use where it more comfortable.
