So I have to pack a soft face hammer when I start A&P school next month. The Snap-On guy is pushing These polymer ones but the tool list says rawhide is a suitable option as well.

I assume these are for sheet metal work which I have almost no experience doing. I cant see using that big blue slug to nudge metal parts into place, it looks like a quick way to lose those corners.

So for those of you in sheet metal fabrication, or those Aircraft guys who just know just what needs to get beat on softly to stay airworthy, what kind of soft hammer am I going to find most satisfying to use, and useful in general?

Thanks and gig 'em

I like garland rawhide mallets. Available in various sizes, they have interchangeable faces that should suit a variety of needs.

The factories use Snap On regular dead blow hammers. I've never seen anything else. I personally like the slimline head dead blows. The middle weight is my favorite.

Trusty Cook is running a sale right now I think. If you check the Hot Deals section you'll see it. Might look at them, I know they sell a good hammer.
