I am in the market for a stud welder. In the past I have used the H&S stinger, but will a less expensive model do? I did a search, and I tend to stay away from HF stuff.

What stud welders would you guys reccomend?

I also want to purchase one with a good slide hammer, as it will see plenty of use as well.

I would really only reccomend the h&s. the cheaper ones just won't last in my experience.

They definitely have a solid slide hammer as well.

You could maybe check out the motorguard units. I don't have any experience with them, but they may be worth looking into.

I have an H&S. It is nothing short of fantastic. I can't say anything good or bad about the other brands but mine works great. Using a set of cheap HF sidecutters you can usually grab onto the base of the stub, twist it back and forth and get it to come off with no grinding needed. It make pulling dents a breeze. You can also get a shrinking tip to use it to shrink metal. If you anticipate pulling some dents, it's money well spent. The puller that came with it seems to be working well also. Mine came with the puller where the end is kinda like a drill's chuck (twist the barrel and it tightens on the stud).
