School Me On Torque Adaptors

Can someone tell me what they are used for? I recently bought a set off of eBay (yes I got a Snap On set:rocker:) and thought they were used to be used off a ratchet for tight places.

I had to torque down a intake manifold on a SBC and put a torque adaptor on the end of my torque wrench to get the job done, I hope I didn't screw it up.

Which way did you have it oriented relative to the wrench; inline or at an angle (hopefully 90)?

Inline- changes the applied torque vs. setting on wrench (generally longer moment arm, unless it is rotated between wrench square and the handle, making the lever shorter)

90deg angle- same torque on fastener as readout on wrench

Angle other than 90- also changes the applied torque (longer or shorter moment arm depending where the adapter is rotated to)

Torque adapters are used for torqueing in tight spaces like you did. The length of the torque adapter is supposed to be factored into the torque calculation though.

It's considered lengthening the torque wrench when these are added. It's fine to build outward with extension bars but not upward without factoring it in.

Maybe someone else can explain how that is done.
