Scissor hoist engine removal?

Anyone ever done a full engine trans and sub frame drop on a scissor hoist?
Getting a Audi S4 V8 soon and was planning to do a full rebuild. would much prefer a 2 post hoist but considering that I'm in a rental I don't think a 2 post will be allowed.
Have seen a few scissor hoist that are fairly compact but heavy to move.
Just wondering if I'm going to be restricted with one doing engine and trans work?

I have a snap on 6500# scissor lift and have dropped a dozen or so front subframes with no problem. I did make a cart from a heavy duty pallet to lay the subframe onto for the last one, huge difference over lining up on jack stands!
Check your local craigslist for a quality used unit, I pickup mine for $800 and use it every weekend. This thing even lifts a crew cab diesel!

I've got the same lift as tstaude and have done a few fwd engine drops with it. If its a rwd vehicle then it gets a little bit tougher but still doable.

Unit IM after is some what like in the photo
compact and no need to bolt into the floor and no risk of collapsing
I would feel much safer under a unit like that then a 2 post
But what are the fall backs? has anyone worked under one before?
Are there any movement restrictions other then the cross beam?
Can still get access to the exhaust and tail shaft well

I almost went for a similar one from Greg Smith, the Atlas Kwik Bay 7000#. They look pretty heavy duty and have a similar rise.
I have done a few AWD cars on mine and it works pretty decent, you just have to position the car and the risers correctly to get access to the rear driveshaft and exhaust.

With a car that size, it will be rock solid. Mine doesn't start to have any bit of flex until it has a crew cab diesel on it. Given that it's just a mid rise it will feel way more stable than a lot of two post units.
What's your location? You are more than welcome to check mine out if you are near southern WI.

I guess all I'm concerned about is ability to work underneath the vehicle compared to a 2 post.
I will need free access to the exhaust and tail shaft
