Greetings all, and Happy Christmas!!!
I've spent the last few hours skimming over the half a million posts in the HUGE scissor lift install thread. Just Wow. There's a lot of info there. Not counting that massive thread, I've been looking into lifts for quite a while and very nearly bought an Atlas 414 (Greg Smith 14k lb 4-post) lift, just last week. Then it occurred to me that what I might really need is a full height scissor lift. I can't think of a better group of people that might be able offer advice.
Based on my research over the past few days, I'm leaning toward the Atlas FM9SL. I have a Unimog (416 Doka) and a 185" wheelbase motor home that weigh in just under 9,000 lbs. I'm not concerned about the Mog. In fact, I don't even have to flush-mount the lift for that rig.
. It's the motor-home that's got me thinking.
The specs say that it can extend to 80". At best, that leaves me about 50" front and rear, but about 36" if you don't count the size of the tire. The reality is that I'll likely have 40" off the rear. Pulling out a tape measure, it doesn't look like a big deal. My thinking is that, assuming a fairly ridged frame, as long as it's balanced the lift will be just fine. True?
Am I missing something?
