Scissor lift question....

In looking at lifts, I see ones where the sides are flat like this one: http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Atlas-LR-10P-Portable-Low-Rise-Scissor-Lift

...and others that have fold out stands like this one: http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Atlas-TD6MR-Portable-Scissor-Lift

It seems that the ones with the flat sides would lift the car on the pinch welds along the rocker, bending it all up! The ones with the fold outs could be positioned where you need them. What am I missing?

Also looking for a decent name brand that won't break the bank. My 2 car garage is only 20 feet wide. I won't be putting it flush with the concrete. It'll be portable. There are lots of info out there. :scared: The search continues...

My Bendpak MD6XP just arrived today. I've set it up, but it won't be until Sunday that I'll have time to get my car up on it. I chose it because of space considerations, and after downloading specs for the Atlas and the Bendpak, it appeared the Bendpak suited my requirements better. I'll post pics with it in use asap, but for now, I highly recommend looking at the drawings of the lifts in the (downloadable) owners manuals.

First decide what "rise" you must have. Huge difference in cost and design between low/mid/full-rise.
Then we cam help you.

They give you these rubber blocks(all different sizes) that you slip under the jack points. You can see Jeff (from Bendpak) placing them under one of my cars in the video of my garage in my SIG below.

I have the TD6MR. Both myself and a friend who has a body shop bought them. I've been well pleased with mine.

I'm curious to see Thruxtons Bendpak mid rise setup.I have a four post, and a two post already. The two post is a Bend Pak,XPR-9FS.After having it,that is all I would choose to buy.It has been perfect, set up flawlessly and no leaks. It does the jobs I put it to effortlessly,so as far as I'm concerned brand X's at 1,195-1,395 then factor in shipping, you may as well buy the BP currently @ $1,915 with free shipping,no brainer.NTM,their customer service is awesome.
I really, really want to get and could use a mid rise right now,but am falling a couple bucks short to purchase the BP,so I will have to wait. But that is the one I def want,MD-6XP.

I have a Bendpak low-rise that has the wide flat pads like the Atlas LR-10P. Because of a beam in my garage, I couldn't benefit from much more than a low-rise, and it lets me do pretty much any of the things I'm inclined to do myself.

I've never let it lift by the pinched body metal along the bottom, always used blocks of wood to lift by the frame or designated lift points. A little more crawling around, but I don't want to bend anything.

I can tell you that it's a huge improvement over setting up with jacks & jackstands to do oil changes, brakes, etc. My arthritic knees feel that the lift was worth every penny...
