With all the nice shops and garages on here, I'm wondering how many of you have scissor lifts for use in changing light bulbs or working on the building that's above the reach of most common step ladders.

Yay! Every time I see a thread with scissor lift in the title hoping it's about the type I used to work on rather them the type to lift cars. This is the first.
I don't own one but I would if I had a larger shop, otherwise it's cheaper to rent one.

We bought a JLG (2546 I believe) for when we tinned the inside of our shop. It's been a better purchase than imagined. Used it for the tin, running conduit and all the electrical, hanging the lights, etc. We don't have steps to the mezzanine yet so its kind of like an elevator right now as well. This one was about perfect size for finishing off the shed, but will likely sell and buy a smaller footprint machine for changing lights/small maintainence activities.

I've owned several different types of lifts. Having one for screwing around in the shop is very handy. But unless you have a need for one several times a week I'm with HeavyMetal, it's cheaper to rent. For occasional use the expensive breakdowns aren't worth the head ache. I shut down my contracting business in 10 and the only one I kept is a straight up and down one with a platform height of 20ft for those "just incase moments" and it hasn't been used since I finished up my home shop.

On my list.
with a couple of different shops it would come in handy.

Stored one for a friend a couple of years ago for the winter.
Used it all the time.

My times for use would be so eratic that it would be tough to rent one.
Maybe I would buy one and after all overhead work is done resell it...............nah ;)
