Being all my friends have borrowed all my paint stands I thought that some of you would like to see how they are built. I start with 1" EMT electrical conduit. I bend the legs and drill the hinge hole. I use insulating pipe tubes for the tops of the stand. You can use these for all kinds of projects they work very well and are easy to store. They are easy to build with a little time and effort at minimal cost.:D

I have made these stands for over 40 years. My backround is in the electric world. The 3/4 EMT is very strong you will see this when you bend it. I have use these stand for numbers of loads. Never had a problem with weight. So if you can't enjoy building them yourself, go to HF.:)

Good job on the stands.
I built some out of the legs of my kids' trampoline. The mat was shot and buying a whole new setup was cheaper than fixing the mat alone.

I think the AST 500lb stands run about $35.00 and I get them at work. I've got one at home and I will be getting at least one more. Great stands to have around.

Do most of you guys that used these put pipe insulation on them to keep...whatever..from sliding around? Also, do you use them instead of sawhorses, or in addition to?

What I like about these is the ease of moving something that is on the stand. In order to hold an object you need two saw horses. If you try to move it all it is a juggling match. If I have to move the stand with something on it, it's much easier with it just being one stand with two holding points.

I bought a pair years ago, I think I paid about $35 each form a paint supply shop. They have been very handy and one has been circulating amoung a couple of friends for the past year or so.

Local 4H archery instructor built a few for the kids' recurve bows. Works really well, and is a snap to setup/store.

Now this is an example of a great contribution. A how-to with pictures, parts list, and instructions. And something that most everyone can use. Congrats and thanks to the OP!

Unfortunately, I don't have an easy way to bend 1" conduit so I'm SOL on this one!

I can build buildings, paint cars, run wires, build transmissions and engines, do plumbing and all kinds of stuff. Can't bend pipe for poop. Nice stands - might try it anyway! I think I know where I hid my conduit bender...
