Thanks for the encouragement.

I am drawing up a second set of plans with the 12 foot walls and hip roof.

If I go that way, I will run 16 inch lvl down the center with a steel post in the middle and steel posts on each end,

If you are going to do that, you will need a small crane for the LVL. That same crane can drop in SIP roof panels. Fast and pre-insultaed !

I see no reason why your idea shouldn't work, but have the engineering done by the truss company that you will be using. They provide this as a service, and in my experience, they do not charge for engineering, design, or printed plans.

I built my barn 3 years ago; 36'w x 48'd. Here's a pic of us setting the trusses, which were engineered by the truss company. They span the 36' width, the sidewalls are approx 12'; ceiling height is 16'; OHD is 14' height.
