I got a call from my mom yesterday saying my dad had gotten me a bunch of tools including a lathe. I was supposed to venture over to their house anyway so they could meet my new girlfriend, so I went and checked out the tools.
Apparently, my dad has a friend he knows from model railroading (my dad has always been huge into it) and the guy's father had passed away a few years back. The father worked on cars and his old tools were sitting in the garage wasting away so the guy gave them to my father on the cheap.
I'd say out of the hand tools 20-25% is china and india ****. 50-60% is US Cman, Proto, SK, Wright, etc. 20-25% is Mac, Matco, Blue-Point, and Snappy. I'm very happy about the Mac tool box and the HF micro-lathe. Most of the hand tools are SAE, which I rarely use. It looks like Ill probably sell off or trade a lot of the hand tools for stuff I want / need.
Here are some pictures:
The lathe has me super excited. No, I won't be making space shuttle parts. It will however let me practice some lathe skills, produce a few small parts, and ready me for a big lathe.
If you look below my dad you will notice a box of blue-point snap ring pliers! Big score for me.
The black box and milk crate are full of stuff
So I pulled out all of the Snap-On, Matco, and Mac tools. There are still abunch of Snappy impacts that I didn't take the time to pull yet. But here is a pic of all the high end stuff besides the impacts.
I'll keep the snappy ratchet and blue point crescent, but all this other stuff has no real appeal to me so you will probably see it posted in the classifieds soon. Whats a fair % to list some of this stuff for? 50% of retail? 25% of retail?
