After an exhaustive search for an economical solution for the ceiling in the garage I hit it big today.

My neighbor called and asked if I can help him pick up some sheetrock at lowes. Walked in the door and there was 1200 sf of drop ceiling tiles on a skid. Regular price was 674. Now on clearance for 75.00 YES 75 bucks for the whole skid.

Some are damaged but chances are some of them will need to be cut anyway.

What a great deal. I always make it a habit to check their returned items area. It seems that the contractors they hire out to install things for folks where I live can't measure correctly so there are always windows and such that are marked down.

I bought a custom 9'-6" solid mahogany door that was returned for $50. It was marked at $1400 originally. Don't know what I'll do withit but hell for $50 I'll hang it on the wall and call it art.

I recently found a Pella low-e awning window (18" x 120") that was special ordered for $653 they had marked down to $603. I talked to the department manager and got it and another Pella awning that was 18" x 48" for $200 total. My garage now has better windows than my house and the awning windows are great for security concerns (mounted them at 7' AFF) without limiting natural light.

Felt good to fall into it.

I check the clearance areat a Lowes too, these tiles were right in the doorway as you enter the store on the contractor side.

I wonder what Home Depot does with their returns? Knowing HD they toss them in the dumpster.

What did the track cost to hang it?

Ahhhh....the same neighbor just had a massive building built at work (healthcare research) and they have a bunch of track left over. It is headed for the dumpster unless someone can pick it up.

Going shopping today.

Also headed for the dumpster was 2 explosion proof lamp fixtuers 900 each retail. Sickens me the amount stuff he gets and doesnt get because it is too late.

Actually, THD does the same thing. They mark them down but if you are willing to haggle you can generally get a better deal. Heck, I own a small lawn service and I have bought 2 Echo weedeaters, and Echo backpack blower and a Toro self propelled mower all "used" for less than half price. A lot of their "used" or "reconditioned" stuff has never been used but for whatever reason they can't sell it as new!! All you have to do is keep looking and be patient!!
