Found these for 25 cents each.... :bounce:
I actually only wanted the 1969 edition, but for that price, why not all of them.

Ooops… Sorry, I should have rotated them.

Last time I was at the restore store I asked "is that a shower or monkey cage?" I got a blank stare, "that's a department store security cage." Sure looked like a shark cage on wheels to me.

I was just wondering to myself recently, "How the heck did I fix anything on my car back in the day without the internet?!"

Then I remembered that Pop had one of those gigundous Chilton manuals that covered all cars for a good span of years.

Good find.

Great score. I paid $2 for my Motors 40 years ago. It was the go to book! Everything you needed to know and simple to follow

I hated, hated, hated these things. The absolute pinnacle of technically correct but utterly useless.

"Replace Left-Handed Frammis Furbler Procedure:
Step 1: Remove Engine"

Fargleblarglemargle really?

(flip flip flip... %$#@!^&!!!l... )

"Easy-n-fun 4-step process to remove engine:
1. Disconnect everything attached to engine
2. Remove transmission
3. Remove hood
4. Disconnect engine mounts and remove engine with an appropriate lifting device."

Aarrggh.

And of course, the reality is that to replace the Frammis Furbler or whatever, all you need to do is pry one engine mount slightly to the side...

And can we talk about the fuzzy little dark postage stamp photos of essential components? Or the shaky little enlightenment-free line drawings?

Or fun stuff like a helpful diagram of the drum brakes that turns out to be a generic image with dangerous and significant variations from the car in front of me.

Yer giving me flashbacks...

You are lucky to get them that cheap. The ReeStore in my neck of the woods sells used sets of donated (free to them) Harbor Freight SAE full polish wrenches for $50. I can buy a brand new set from HF cheaper without using my discount coupon.....go figure.

It seems that the people running the place have no idea of retail costs of anything.....that or they are just trying to scrape you for every penny that they can get just like all of the CL and FleaBay people

Probably because they figure since the customer thinks the money is going to a good cause, the customer is willing to spend just a bit more?? :headscrat

I do love me some old repair manuals!

For my personal vehicles, and for what I usually work on (American 55-85) these have served me well.

The 1948 isn’t necessarily a repair manual, rather a “how long/how much” for repair jobs (in 1948 money).

I do have many other manuals, and pick up random ones at sales and such. But seeing as how stuff is so readily available on the internet, I use my computer or phone for current stuff or a flip car I may never have another one to sell (can’t say never though).

Still. Nothing beats a book open on the top of the motor, reading the text
