Picked this up today from a guy at school. He never used it and needed money more than the box.(got it for 1500.00) The box is in brand new condition. I would have preferred the flat black over the gloss, this thing shows hand prints like crazy. This is my first nice toolbox. Now I just need to get it full of tools.

For some reason people here like to rag on the KRA boxes but I'll tell you, as a CLassic 96 owner, they're a damn fine box in their own right, especially when you get a good deal on the secondary market. My Craigslist Extreme Green Classic is the nicest box I've ever owned, for sure:

I like the Classic Series Boxes. I am soon in need for a new box and I hope to find me a good deal like that....

Nice. You should have talked him down more though. He paid around $1850 for it. You still got a good deal. For a little more you could of got exactly what you wanted brand new. But is paint from glossy to flat worth $350? I don't think so.

With my Student discount that very box would cost me 2099.00. I dont think they sell it any cheaper than that. Also all colors are the same price including the flat black.

Mines $1860 after tax. I'm not sure what good a warranty is on a box, or if it's transferable.

what the depth of the longest drawer? are you able to put 1/2" drive sockets up right or do you have to lay them down to close it?

I bought an as-new Classic 78 a few months ago as well. Incidentally, I paid the same $1500, and I also felt I got a good deal. Mine is green, not black. My student-pricing on a new one is just over $2000. Not sure how you managed the $1860.

As far as warranty...I added a home-grown side box / locker to my box. In the process (which required the removal of my drawers), I guess I managed to booger up a slide or two. When I mentioned the slide issue to my student rep, he said "the boxes are warrantied for life...I'll get a slide set out to you". I had also mentioned the issue to our SO truck guy...when he came by the next week, he had a couple of slides, and helped me swap them out. So, I thought the warranty on the box was quite handy.

Having the Classic 78 box, which I really like, I'd LOVE to have a Classic 96. That would be about perfect, IMO. I like the lower "shelf" height of the KRA series, though I also like the idea of an additional "deep" drawer of the KRL series.

I've got my 1/2" sockets standing upright in the top drawer of my Classic 78, in some of the Harbor freight socket trays.

I bought a classic 78 for $1800 9 months ago. Gloss black with Stainless Steel Top. Couple scratches here and there, but its a great box. my 1/2 sockets stand right up in the top drawer inside of my hansen socket trays.

Enjoy!

The $1860 is printed on all the handouts at the school. It seems like the prices vary by region. Maybe they are set by the regional sales rep. Someone else on here told me they paid the same through SEP. Either way, they're all great prices for this box.

That's great, the way they took care of you and handled the warranty.

I asked the SO rep at my school today that same question and he said since SO doesn't track serial numbers or registers them to the original buyer that the warranty will follow the box regardless of owner.
