A few months ago there was a thread on our favorite 3M products that we like.
I mentioned a product called Scotch-Weld PR40, which was highlighted in a video by a youtuber named SixtyFiveFord - I love that guy's videos. He used it to glue a patch on a tire, making a permanent sidewall repair on an otherwise unsalvageable ATV tire.
This stuff is simply amazing. It's a super glue that bonds rubber and plastic permanently.
Yesterday, I had a watch band on my favorite cheap Casio Watch that broke. It is a rubber watch band and the watch is several years old - I wear it at the shop because it cost about $20 and I don't mind tearing it up. The band broke where the holes are right at the hole where it hooks on my wrist - so at the stress point. When I looked up a replacement band - they ranged from 11.95 plus tax to 17.95 plus tax for the Casio replacement - which seems strange when you can buy the whole watch for $20.
I hate throwing stuff away so I thought maybe I can glue it back together. I pulled out the little bottle of scotch weld and in 3 minutes my watch band was back together and on my wrist. I don't know of any other product that works like this. This was a small surface area at a high stress point, and yeah it's only lasted about 12 hours, but it doesn't show signs of failing.
The little bottle is pretty expensive, but worth every penny. I've glued dozens of plastic and rubber things back together with it. The PR40 is light viscosity, I think they make other thicker consistencies. I have a love/hate relationship with super glue - it seems when it works, it works well, but many times it doesn't work. For plastic and rubber, this stuff works. Buy it.
