So, I picked up a Scotchman 350-LT cold saw at an auction this week. It does have a could of problems that I need to figure out.

First the vise is stuck. I can turn the handle about an eighth of a turn either way then i just tightens up. The jaws just don't move. Second, I can't get the saw head to change angle. I'm wondering if it's just set too long an seized. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Lubricate everything liberally, then dis-assemble components until you find the problem. Scotchman makes a good saw, they are worth fixing.

I almost ordered a Jet or Baileigh. In fact, the reason I didn't was I hadn't been able to get a quote from Baileigh with the alliance discount. I'm sure this will be a much better saw once it's cleaned up.

Couple thoughts...
I got mine because the vise was seized... Outfit that had it had more money than time, so I picked it up. I popped mine loose via 3' pipe wrench. However, I'd proceed somewhat carefully. I remember pricing a replacement vise, and it was significant...

Next is I tried everything to get the damn solidified coolant to dissolve... Nothing worked, and I just gave up for the night... Poured rain that night, and it was all gone in the morning. The water based coolant seems to be impervious to all the oil based cleaners, but water takes it right off.

Last , for changing the angle... There are two locks... The lever in front has to be loose, and then there is a little rocker that will engage the stops at 45, and 90 that might be screwing you up if you don't know it's there...

toolsling has a very good angle there. Boil a bigass pot of water and try ungumming it a bit. I had that very saw years ago.
The Bailey is junk in comparison. Matter of fact Bai...nevermind

Thanks for the input. I hadn't thought about using water. But, given how gunky the thing is it may be the ticket.

I'll look for the rocker. Hopefully, that's the problem.
