Last Saturday I made the drive to Emerado ND for an auction. Through prior investigating I knew that there were International Harvester tools scattered about the boxes and pails on one of the flatbed trailers. After arriving early for the sale, I asked the auctioneer if I could assemble a small lot of tools. He said he'd be happy if I put together some items. So, I grab a new oil drain pan and load it up with all the IH tools that I could find. To throw off other bidders, I added some tools of different manufacture to the mix.

By afternoon they got to the trailer with the tools. The ring man grabs a new creeper ($29.99 tag still on it) and can't get a bid. Auctioneer says "throw something else in with it", and the ring man grabs my pan of tools. A few bids later, I had the pan, tools and creeper for $25. :)

The sockets, extension, wrenches, hose clamp pliers, and wheel nut wrench are all IH. The "decoy" tools that I tossed in were a 1/2" Indestro Super speed wrench, Proto 5252A 3/8" ratchet, a no-name snap ring tool and a no-name pry-bar.

Made for a good day at the auction!

That's pretty cool! I have yet to buy any tools at an auction, but I've heard of a lot of people getting some great deals at them.

Thank you. I have picked up auction tools dirt cheap before and I have payed a little more than I wanted at times also. Average your fair deals in with your great deals and you will be ok!

Jazzy the cat got dropped off at Mom & Dad's farm. Found him one morning in the yard. Sad the way some people treat animals. Jazzy is starting to settle in with the rest of the cats at the farm so he will be alright.

I want you to know you're contributing to a potential relapse.

Both my wife and I used to drive Scouts. When gas got expensive, and my wife's commute increased to 50 miles/day, we reluctantly gave them up for nice, economical Suzuki 4x4s.

I'd managed to whittle my collection down to the present Travelall 1210 and a Cub Cadet 123 (hey, an IH is an IH!) Seeing these tools is starting to make me want to collect IH stuff again.

(At least tools don't require frequent fuel stops or have annoying bulkhead connectors!)

For awhile it looked like they tried to anyhow. Or at least stuck their name to almost everything. I even know someone with an electric IH hedge trimmer. BTW, from what I have heard, their refrigeration equipment was second-to-none untill they quit the line in the mid-50's.

Growing up we had an IH fridge the thing ran forever but finally gave up. Sat out in the storage shed for years until the barn got torn down and Dad made me pull it out so it could be thrown in the pit they dug for burying the debris of the barn. I pulled the handle off first , because of course it had the IH logo in it! Wish I could find one of those old fridges , if nothing else to make a tool cabinet out of it.

We too had an IH refrigerator. It had been my grandparents', but when my mom and dad were finally able to make a down payment and buy their first home, my grandparents went out and bought themselves a new fridge, so they could give their IH fridge to us. It worked for many, many more years...only being replaced when modern refrigerators offered more needed food storage for a growing family.

The only reason IH stopped making freezers and fridges is because they won a contract from the US Gov't to make M-1 Garand rifles and converted their freezer/fridge plant over to making Garands.

M1 Garands made by IH were very well made and I'm sure command a collectors premium today. They had "International Harvestor" written out on the back of the receiver above the serial number.

Always wondered why they quit the refrigeration equipment. Now I know. :) Thanks.

The individual parts are marked with IH's mark also. It's rare to find an IH M1 that contains all IH parts. Luckily I picked one up in great condition a few years back. Mine was reasonably priced too.

I have a 73' Scout that I have juiced up with a 350 30 over and extras. I will be picking up a 76'
Scout a friend has given me, he is 70+ so I will get it from him. I should try and collect IH tools for them. I did end up with some War Finish Plumb tools from my gpa that passed away.

Thanks, JASTECH

My aunt and uncle had an IH chest freezer in their storage shed for years. I think it finally died about 10 yrs ago and they got rid of it. I have no idea what happened to it, but I always thought it was pretty neat, and I wish I had it now and had room to store it.
