Well, new here (obviously), I found your amazing site from pirate4x4.com. I must say, I have been reading more threads in less time than on any other forum I have been on! Soooo I figured I would let you all see what i am up against :D I bought my first house this last summer, in about August-ish (I was 23 at the time). Now I can't say that it was the house so much that attracted me, as the location, and what I found in the back yard :D

What we have here is a 30' x 30' shop, about 12 - 14 years old, complete with 15' door, tons 'o lighting, bathroom with water heater, toilet, shop sink, and gas heater. Nothing too special, yet. Here are the before pictures, I will explain more in the next post.....

Long story short, I bought this property in very, very sad shape. I do not kid you when I say the first time I opened the garage door that I COULD NOT walk into it. There was an office built inside of it, which took up nearly the entire left half of the shop.

Well.. in came the FIRST 30 yard dumpster, which we filled in 1 and a half hours :( Nothing quite as depressing as that! All told we have removed the following list of ****:

(4) Saabs
(1) 30 Yard dumpster of garbage i.e. anything you can think of
(1) 22 yard dupmster of same
(1.5) TONS of scrap metal ($95/ton! woo!)
(1) ENORMOUS truck bed camper
(2) entire sheds packed with ****
(1) set of washers and dryers
(2) old dismantled fridge/freezers
(1) run of 30' of falling down fence

That just the short side of it... the shop was FULL. People who see it now can't even believe that it is the same place. one of the Saab's was grown into the lawn, if you understand what I mean...

On the plus side, i have about 1500 sqft of concrete OUTSIDE the shop, too! However I do not plan on filling it back up with all kinds of **** like the PO did! It is fully piped with copper air lines, and appears to be done right. Here are some 'mid way' pictures, about 3 months ago I would say...

More good things: the PO left a lot of really good stuff, too! I got that multi ton chain hoist you see hanging by that rope there.... ugh. Also got this awesome bandsaw, which I had to sell, only because I have too many other projects than to start restoring old machines, but don't worry it went to good hands. I also got a pretty nice drill press, a giant ugly but very strong welding cart, a plastic injection molding machine (anybody need one??) 6 desks (anybody need a desk??) and I am sure a few other things I am forgeting. Ah yes my RAHN flat stone, everybody needs one right? :wtf: I will snap some 'current' photo's tomorrow.

I will be taking advice from all of you on exactly how to finish this shop out. My current Ideas are this: On the long left wall, I will build cabinets and shelves floor to ceiling from about the small entry door to over the top of the window. I plan on adding onto the building to the left, where the compressor shed is, as there is already concrete there. It would be a nice little add on for a tool crib in back/ paint booth up front with a 1 car door. I will take out the window, and turn it into a door. The current bench runs the lenght of 2 walls, and is very flat and very thick. Underneath I will add more shelving, and after deciding just how much of the benches I REALLY need, I will build cabinet doors all around to keep things out of sight. You will get a better feel for this in the upcoming pictures.

The bathroom needs 'remodeled' as it is quite dirty and unsanitary... I have painted 1 wall bright white, which I plan on doing to the others as well, and adding some sort of fashionable strip to it I am sure  I think the 'color scheme' will be white, blue, grey, and red. The floor is painted grey, but needs redone in a bad way. I am very easy to talk into things like the ucoatit or what have you so give it a shot ;) Anyhow, I am writting like a man possessed, so I will stop for tonight! THanks for looking, and keep your eyes open for updates, and rember that I need ideas!! :bounce:

Welcome aboard! I was wondering when an International was going to show up in one of those pictures! Nice Travelall. We had several Scouts in the family over the years. I just love those International trucks!

You've been busy. Looks like a great project. I would of called in sick a couple days just to spend time cleaning out the shop and un-earthing its' treasures.

Welcome

Wow do you have your hands full! But I see that you have tackled the project head on with lots of vigor.

The pictures reminded me of a distant relative’s garage. He collected anything and everything and jammed it into his 5 car garage, basement, and house. What any sane person would see as junk, he referred to his heap as “Harold’s Gold.” But he said when he died to have a junkman carry the stuff away. It took a team of four almost a year to dispose of all the Gold.

You really have a nice start to a great “Toy Chest.”

Not too much, it is a 'Simplomatic'. When you plug it in things blink and whirr, so it must work! :D Shoot me an offer i can't refuse :)

Here are a few pics, which ****, from tonight. Apparently my camera doesn't take very good inside when dark outside. :headscrat

School as in 'of Mines'? If so, ditto. They let me out in '04.

Oh, and YES an IH fridge!! IH made LOTS of things, everything from tools to appliances to guns and trucks. They wore a lot of hats back in the day! :bounce:

can you post pics of the garage from the front looking in, i'm looking at different size garages to get an idea of what to build and a 30x30 looks great so far. how do you like the size, how many cars are typically in it, and how is the room while working with multiple cars inside?

homer - My last garage was 30 ft deep. I always wished I had gone the extra 10 ft. My new garage is 30 X 40..You can park it 2 cars deep if needed. If you have the room and money go the extra 10...
