Scrap steel storage

I've started to accumulate some steel pieces.
Any good storage ideas out there?

When I get an area cleared and gravelled, I'm putting up a temp storage shelter and putting all my wood/steel in there.

I built a flat rolling drawer that rolls underneath my 8' workbench. I used castors recessed into the unit so the drawer sits about 1/4" off the floor. It holds a LOT of metal stock.

I got a couple of old computer network racks from where I work.

One is full of shelves for small piece storage and the other is open for longer pieces. The area between the racks is for longer pieces.

Last place I was at I nailed some 2x4s at a bit of a back angle to the wall studs (open walls) and stacked it on there. Made it so I could put 20ft pieces up there. For the short pieces I have a wood crate I toss them in. Full sheets I stack against whatever wall space is available.

This is one of the first things I made for my shed, it used to all be in a drum. The guy at the metal shop thought it was funny that I was buying steel to make something to store more steel

i have a plastic 55gal drum with the top cut off for smaller pieces,
longer pieces i have some angled "brackets" mounted just above floor level onto the wall studs,
sheet steel is laying outside on my trailer behind the garage.


i have a small garage that has the wifes car, my off road s-10 blazer, my harley, and tools in it. sorta cramped for space

I have two different arrangements in my shop. One is a wall mounted rack to get the tubing sticks up off the floor. The other is a triangle shaped rack that holds 6ft and shorter pieces vertically and two foot and shorter pieces horizontally. I modified it to mount flat stock behind it and then put it on wheels.
