I try to hit one of the local scrap yards at least once a week, never know what you may find. This was a snag I made earlier, a Morgan 60 with 6" jaws....

....and I snagged this one earlier this week.

Its a Columbian 506, also with 6" jaws. I didn't quite get it for scrap price, but couldn't pass at $25....and even got the metal gas can for an additional $3! ;)

That's a Type 1 Safety Can. I know what they cost--I've bought a bunch of them over the years. They are great for storing gas. I've stored gas in them for 2 years with no degradation of the gas--but I do use conditioner in them. The great virtue of the Safety Cans is they are airtight.

I was required to purchase them as a S4 in the Army for safety reasons (no plastic gas cans). I remember being sticker shocked. I was always greedy with the Army's money and hated to overpay for items. I wish there were more people like me, who would treat government funds like they were their own $.

Haha, that made me laugh!!

I am kind of curious, though, which vise manufacturer is considered "better"? Or, are the Morgan and Columbian pretty much equal?

I'd sure restore and keep them BOTH . . . one on left end of bench & one on right !!

That will keep the "Nice 6 incher" theme going . . . one on left & one on right !! ;)
