It depends on exposure and finish. A wood door exposed to the elements will delaminate, warp, and crack.

mine is painted and at least 30 years old and still going strong--find an old one for sale[make sure it is fastened together good/paint it and it will be great]
also-you can you a shock closure on it if you do not like the BIG BANG from a spring :lol_hitti

I put a cheap painted wood screen door on mine but instead of a spring I used a storm door closer, works great and NO SLAMMING.

I went with a good quality "storm" door that has full length glass and a screen assembly that can interchange. The screen is nice for Spring, Summer and early Fall, whereas the glass is nice for late Fall and mild Winter days to get some natural light into the garage. I also have a screen on the large garage door.

What is “small?”

Standard door width nowadays is 36 inches.
32 and even 34 inch width used to be available.

80 inches height is pretty standard.

Most of the cheap wood screen doors have enough wood along the sides to allow you to run them through a table saw to get the needed width.

But then, you need a table saw.

I did not want people to think I was talking about one of the big overhead garage doors,so I said small door.

So if you are looking for an old fashioned looking screen door most of the big box stores will have them.
Not out in the main asile displays, but back in the dark.
They wll be raw wood.
Yoy will need to pait it.
And supply your own hardware.

Don't mean to steal the thread but I'll be quick!

The Hot Rod Grille where did you get that big garage door screen & do they have them for single garage doors?

Someday, I'm going to have a wood screen door on my house...brings back memories of my grandad's house...the spring will have to be squeaky and the door will have to slap the frame every time it closes...aaah, nostalgia.

The door screen was made by Kitty Mac (Indianapolis, IN) and was purchased (ordered) at Lowes. The screen comes with a "velcro" perimeter strip that attaches to the door frame (this allows complete removal of the screen assy. during Winter), and has zippers on each side that allow the screen to be rolled up and secured at the top with straps. One person can easily roll the screen and secure it in a minute or two. Lowering it is even quicker! I've been using the screen for 5 years with no problems. They have them for many size openings.

The latest issue of Hotrod Hardware catalog ( www.GenuineHotrod.com ) has similar screens at a much cheaper price. They do not appear to have the zippers on the sides, which means it would be more difficult to roll up the screen as you would have to "undo" the velcro each time.

I've got one on my garage and I LOVE it!!. I bought mine on sale at Menards for $90. I saw that they had the smaller ones for less money.

Exactly!

Got a cheapo screen door for less than $10 at Menards. I reinforced it a bit with my Kreg jig but it's lasted three seasons. Don't care if the kids ruin it at that price. Just painted it up and take it down for the winter.
