My screened enclosure has a 1'' x 2'' aluminum base secured to my pavers. It's a large enclosure around my pool. When it rains here in Florida the water cannot drain out as the base piece is too tight to the paver stones. Subsequently the pavers turn dark, crud collects and the pavers need to be pressure washed annually.

What would be the best way to allow water to drain out? I can easily fabricate some shims, say 1/8" thick, to slip under the metal stock after I loosen the Tapcons. Or I can cut the metal with a saw in various places, but that will not be aesthetically pleasing and will be more difficult to accomplish. I'm definitely open to suggestions. Looking forward to your comments.

Mine has built in drains ….I still have to do a annual pressure washing …I think if you start cutting into that base plate you will damage it structurally ….and it allows a entry point for bugs….my drain runs along the house and the pavers have a bit of a slope to allow drainage.

gmcgeo, thanks. I'll drill down into that when I get some time later.

Bulldog 13, my pavers slope to the outside, so that isn't an issue. I just need to allow the water an opportunity to get out under the metal base.

Id think just spacing it up a touch would be totally fine. Might want to be careful what you use tough. Scrap pieces of iron etc will probably rust and cause streaks on the pavers and corrosion issues with the aluminum. Some type of poly/plastic would be best in my opinion.

Go buy a handful of those cheap plastic cutting boards from Target and cut them to size. Cheap and easy and I cant see them causing any issues.

when they replaced my balcony screens after the big storm the bottom frame was 1/8 inch off the floor

they had a layer of coarse web like material between tthe fram and the floor that acted as a bug screen
