My son and I are enjoying the new shop we built last year. He likse the two garage doors open all the time and so do I unless it's real hot (then they are shut and the A/C comes on). But the bugs, flies and mosquitoes make me crazy. I just saw a picture on another thread and he has screens across his door openings. For some reason I has always equated screened in garaged doors as a garage that had been taken over by the missus and converted into a three season lounge area. HaHa

Any innovative screen systems or DIY screen setups that roll / fold / slide out of the way for and active garage? The regular doors are shut and locked every night.

You can get one from HF. You have to run strips of velcro on each side of the garage opening, the screen is already to go with its velcro stiched in. Theres a slit in the center for access inside. Its cheap, but works.

my parents have 2 of them for their garage. They use them all the time for having company over. The only thing they have problems with is the velcro doesn"t want to stay on the door frame. They stapled it up and that held for a couple years. Overall i think they are worth it. They have had them for probably 8 years and the screens are still holding up great. They also had one for the service door with magnets on it to close and that didn't work at all, the magnets aren't strong enough so any kind of wind and they wouldn't snap back together

I plan on adding one of these this fall.

The only thing that I think would be a problem, is it looks like you can't lower the door, with the screen in place.
Anyone know if this is true?

We just bought a new (to us) house, with a 20 x 21' garage, and it has sliding screens. 4 sliding sections. The door closes inside the screens, so you don't have to raise the screen, let bugs in, then lower the door.

You can't. I wondered about the same thing, so I checked out the website. You have to lower the screen, but not latch it, then manually lower the door until it rests on the screen frame. Apparently that's only so you can access above the door.

I would want a screen where I could close the garage door with the screen in place, and one where I could open part of the screen to walk thru.

Having a hard time searching for the slider screens like the ones on our new house.

I just installed these around a 10'x12' seating area on our porch. Custom made in the USA by a family owned business. I ordered on a Monday and rec'd it on Friday. We absolutely love it, very impressed with the quality and no complaints. We have used our porch more in the past 3 weeks than in the 4 years we've had it.
I have NO connection to the company (financial or otherwise) other than being a satisfied customer.

That's going to be real tough with a garage door opener, unless you have a LM8500 the lift arm would contact the screen. And they both have to be able to push up against the jam to seal, I don't see how both could come down at the same time and occupy the same space.

I did my attached with one that rolls up. Zippers velco to the top and sides. Door operates with the screen up or down. I seem to remember I got mine from a site like garagedoorscreen.com or similar.

My friend has one that raises and lowers on a motor, like a regular garage door and also blocks out casual vision of what is in his garage. He likes the extra privacy.

I guess I should have said, I wouldn't want that type screen, because of not being able to have it down, and open/close the door.
I haven't closed on the new house yet, and used the slider screens , but just trying them, they look like the best bet. Maybe not cost wise, but for convenience, and durability, they look promising.
I'm now thinking that there might be room between the screens and the door for either rigid insulation panels, or a radiant insulation blanket. I think the rigid panels would be easier to remove and install. The garage door faces west, and gets mid to late afternoon sun.

My best friend in California has turned his garage into a billiard room. Got a pool table, slot machine and his computers in there. Nice space. He still has the original garage door, but has sliding screens behind it like a large double doorwall, for when he wants fresh air. Don't know if it was some kind of kit, or if he came up with it himself. He's pretty handy like that.

I got mine from this place. A little pricy but for both doors and delivery+tax cost me $300 for 2 9x8 doors. I love them. Good quality, zippers on both sides, they roll up and down, and garage doors work with them up or down. Best 300 I've spent and my garage is totally bug free:bounce:
