Hi, all.

I'd like to keep the wildlife (bugs, birds) out of the garage when the big doors are open. Seeking ideas for possibly adding screens.

TIA for any advice and insights.

I would build frames and add screens to the frames. My door is 10’wide and 8’tall. Wouldn’t be able to get one off the shelf. I opted for a mini split and skipped the screens.

We love our Lifestyle garage door screen. The "man door" is sometimes a little sticky/cumbersome, mostly for guests who haven't used it enough to figure it out, but after 7 years of service, if it broke in a storm or whatever, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.uno.jpgdos.jpg

If you aren't regularly parking a car in there here is what I did to our attached garage. We park in the detached garage.

That's two 32" and one 36" off the shelf screen doors with filler between and at the top. I redid the opening to get it square and assembled what you see. Notice that there are hinges on the left side as well - that 'dead' portion is attached with 4 barrel bolts - two into the wood at top and two into the concrete at the bottom. I can open all of it in just a few moments - we do it often if severe storms are coming through the area for our oldest kid's CRV. Not something you want to do on a daily basis though.
There is a garage door behind it and it does close.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll look into that. I hadn’t heard of it. 👍

That’s not going to be the best solution in my case since I do run vehicles in and out, but it’s clever and I compliment your ingenuity. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing. 👍

I have friends that work at Overhead Door. I remember a few years back when they were prototyping their garage door screen, they put one on my friends house for her to test.

Seems to work pretty good, she still has it.

I have the cheap one from Harvor Freight.

It’s actually too wide for my single door, but it goes up and comes down easily. I should cut it down and re-seam the edges, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I just let them hang.

Anyway, it works pretty well, and it’s cheap enough that if you want something else you won’t feel bad about having started with it.

I second or third the magnetic screen. I love mine. I can quickly pass through with an arm full with out delay and it automatically shuts behind me. The screen moves out of the way practically eliminating damage concerns due to impact. No door to open and forget to close which would defeat the anti bug purpose.

And if it does get damaged it's attached via velcro. I can replace it in about 5 minutes.

Those Lifestyle and similar are way overpriced.

$1440 vs my $40. The only way I would consider one would be HOA restrictions. None such in my neighborhood.

If you do condition the space, an air curtain could be helpful. Will let you open the door for cars but keep bugs out and the cold air in.
