Anything better than the ridgid set of screw extractors that you guys have found? My grandfather has a set in his toolbox that are all twisted up but still usable. I've seen them in the shops i've worked in as well. Is there anything better? Also, how about turbo socket type removers? What companies? Are they wear items? I see he's got irwin and a 13 piece craftsman set in his box. I did however find once that i needed the irwin style twisty cone shaped extractors (like my adjectives?) to remove a broken piece of a hollow nut (like a brake line fitting) in a transmission. My method is usually drill it out as best i can until i see threads peaking and then smush with a drift until i mushroom it and then try to smack it out or crack it off.

Are you talking about Ridgid 35585? That's one of the best I've found. Its no coincidence it is rebadged and sold by every big tool brand. With that said, there are many other different extractors that work just as well, depending on the situation. My other methods are Matco (Irwin) multi spline extractors like these https://www.zoro.com/irwin-hanson-s..._yfBn_zm-Y6a8dAJm2Y-oxoC-RXw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Then I have a set of Hanson spiral flutes and most recently purchased a set of left hand drill bits. A lot of people found that using a left hand drill bit alone was all they needed to remove the fastener. I try to stay away from the spiral flute style extractors as they tend to spread the broken fastener, which in turn makes it tighter and harder to remove.

These are also another good method http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Scr...eWkFjwUrFHW0dNPGx0uxPPpe0cQfIW8mmjBoCunLw_wcB

For rounded bolts I use the Irwin bolt grips. Never used twist sockets, but I read a lot of good reviews on the SK's. Even the USA made Craftsman low profiles seem like they'd be good. There are also USA made Lisle extractors as well as KD Twist Out's that are made in USA, but may only be available as NOS on eBay.

The bottom line is to buy your extractors from the OEM and save a ton of money. Ridgid, Irwin, Hansen, Rennsteig, etc.
