I have to remove and replace some Phillips head screws in an aircraft engine bay ( translated to tight space and easy to drop the screws into hidden crevasses ) so I'm looking for a Phillips head screwdriver to hold the screw as I remove it and again as I start it back in. Sounds easy except the few I have found are 6-9" long overall and I don't really have that much clearance. I need something around 4-6" long max. Standard Phillips head screw holding a flexible duck in place. Thanks

There's the Wiha 397 series that have a screw holder built in. edit: nvm they are probably too long.

Magnetic will not work, BUT the WERA attachment just may be the answer and it can be attached to various length screwdrivers Thank you

Greenlee makes some very nice ones. The only issue is their shortest one which is 5" is also a #1 tip but you could use it to get the screws started then switch over. The #2 is 7". The one I have is a #0 and is the best selfholding driver I've ever used and I've had ever style out there. (Retired sparky).

You might also try felo, they used to offer one like this many years ago but I don't know if they still do. I had one of theirs in a #2 tip.

I have 2 phillips screw starters. One with a "hood" style of holder and one a spring type. The latter is an aluminum bodied job that could easily be shortened to the shorter length you're looking for.

One like this:

If you have really tiny screws to start, Micro Mart has these mini starters.

I have one of each of the minis heading my way. Look just too darn handy to be without.
