Screwdriver recommendations (UK)

Hi,

I currently have 20+ Stanley Fatmax and 12 Wera screwdrivers. But I want another set!

Any suggestions for a make that is readily available in the UK, reasonably priced (I can't see the point in buying anything dearer than Wera as they're unlikely to be better), and has a good range of sizes. Perhaps a hard-handled style.

I'd be happy with used Stanley 5000 series if anyone has any to sell - I once had some, sold them, and regretted it.

What are you using them for? yes I know, screws! automotive? electrical? joinery? I had a set of the Stanley 5000 series as an apprentice auto tech, still have some of them.

For auto work at home I have a set of Draper mechanics pattern, they're cheap enough, handles are a touch slim on the smaller sizes but they're basically based on the old snap-on hard handle series.

Try the CK 'classic'! Hard handles, made in Germany, a notch up on the Stanley 5000's and available in decent hardware shops. You can often get sets on offer!

Those Britool ones are the same as the Stanley fatmax the op already has.
There are some 5000 series Nos on Ebay very cheap, one strait and one posi, I bought 3 of each as they are probably the best hard handle for a carpenter ever made.
I like Wiha, Witte, Felo, Bacho in both Belzer and Irazola techno types.
Not tried PB Swiss yet, or Vessel from Japan

Facom Protwist, the shock ones with the striking caps are especially good. I've been using a set of them for the past 10 months and they have now replaced my Snap On ones

I love my PB Swiss but they'd be a bit more dear than the wera I believe. Have a few vessel as well and they have some of the best grippy handles I've tried. I'd take a long look at Bahco.

Take a look through the epic and massive old world tools thread - lots of ideas there.

I don't know if the have the USA made Williams hard handled over there but if you were here that'd be my recommendation in a heart beat.

I have a large selection of Facom Protwist screwdrivers and they are excellent. Very strong and durable and they fit perfectly.

However, I also have a full set of Halfords Professional screwdrivers, and while IMHO they are not as strong as the Facom's, I prefer to use them for automotive work due to the really nice soft grip handle's and the fact that the shank length is shorter than the Facom's which gives me a bit more finesse.

The price of the Halfords screwdrivers, when they are on sale, is also really good value for money.

very much a wera fan.

they have taken a beating - just a case of using the right driver for the right job.

yellow are hammer through ,

Green are general with laser tip

red are electrical with laser tip.

The CK in the top left - handles are VERY heavy makes them fair unbalanced.
