hey, i been looking for a good screwdriver set for shop use

from what i been told snap on is truly the best because of the conveniant hex on the shank where you can put a wrench on it and the handle is soft, triangular and better grip when hands dirty.

i wanted to know how good are sk expert 2 set, it looks like a good grip (only no hex thing for the wrench);

anyone used them?

Many screwdrivers come with a "hex" and many people do not like the soft grip Snap Ons. I like SO screwdrivers and have a bunch but IMHO they are not the "best" screwdriver out there, that honor would go to either German or Swiss made screwdrivers. Much less money than SO and like I said, IMHO a better driver. Wiha and PB are a few brand names.

Find sets like in this link from SO for the same price (dont bother trying, you wont even come close)

A great choice would be these if you want soft grip and hex

My favorites were always the traditional, hard plastic, SO ones, they just stopped making. I'm hoping Cornwell will put their traditional hard handles back on the screwdrivers. If you have a way to warranty them the SO Instincts, hard handle are pretty good. Craftsman Pro are not bad, I'll give them an honorable mention. The old SK green hard handles were pretty good, I think they still sell them. Soft grips always clean up badly and get "gummy" in my experience.

Not sure about Snap-on screwdrivers, but here are my 2 sets of Mac Tools screwdrivers:

The Wiha screwdrivers looks good though and you can get SK's for cheap:

I think eschoendorff has a set of those .... why the hell do I remember stuff like that? :wtf:

I do have a set of SK Expert 2s... they are good for clean, low-torque work. I never used them in a dirty or high-torque situation. I have other drivers for that. There are especially good for someone with arthritic hands....

Unfortunately, yes. :( Everything is getting outsourced nowadays with quality that rivals US made stuff, ie: Gearwrench, although i dont really like their screwdrivers. It's the only way to stay competitive. Technology/manufacturing has advanced so much now that it can be effectively reproduced for so much cheaper...***** to see that.

That makes no sense at all, some of the Taiwan stuff is pretty good, I'm happy with Gearwrench but price does have something to do with me being happy with them. Even if the quality was just as good as the US made SO's I'd think resale value on the US made SO's is going to be alot better.

I have a set of a SO hard handles that I bought a few years ago.. I tried the new soft grips and don't like them, many people don't like them. Maybe Snap-On will switch back to hard handles one day. NOS hard handles are fetching good amounts of money on ebay...

I would look into a set of Whia screwdrivers.

Are those SK screwdrivers US made?

No, they're made in France.

That wouldn't have anything do with the fact they are experts at screwing things up would it :supergay:

And if you look at these SK screw drivers real close it looks like the shank is welded to the bolster. Elroy has one inventoried and in Elroy's opinion it's one too many. You can have them.
