Been considering getting a set (standard & long) of the Snap on ratcheting screwdrivers. Never had one, only have a cheap craftsman ratcheting, wondering if the Snap on have smoother action and more tooth count than the Craftsman I have?

Bahcos VDE drivers (electrical) are rubbish...I have a long PZ2 that I've downgraded to oil can opener as it rounds off any fastener you put it near...and it wasn't cheap either...biggest waste of money ever....

Went and bought my wera's after that and been happy with them since

I wish there was a better way to test a style of screwdriver then spend say 20 dollars on one to see if i like it LOL

I had the same issue as you, I bought some screwdrivers on ebay and used some that my friends had to test them out.

I ended up with the Mac (Proto) new style. I like them quite a bit so far. I also have a drawer full of other ones I use for different tasks.

Seriously. I think I've convinced myself to pick up a set of wera's. Then I find this website to check some out:http://www.kctoolco.com/Screwdriver...rt=1&cat=3229&brand=Wera+Tools&show=33&page=1

How do you have 500 different styles of a freaking screwdriver? I feel like I just need to pick a color scheme. Can they really be all that different you need to make that many different sets?

What size work gloves do you wear? I'm interested to hear if one (wera vs wiha) works for certain size hands. I'm a med in most gloves.

If you could only pick one set/brand of screwdriver who would it be and why?

I know I will get alot of Snap-On love.
I know I will get trolled, its all in good fun though right :lol_hitti

I know that some people have more screwdrivers then most people have tools. I want to know what is the go to. What makes it the go to.

Thanks,
V

PS: CoO is cool and all but it does not make a crappy tool better or worse. If it is crappy it is crappy no matter where it is from.

Craftsman Professional black rubber handles. I bought a set about 15 years ago. I like the regular Craftsmans for the most part.

XL. I just hate the hump in the middle of the handle. I like Wiha, snap-ons, and CMAN pros (the discontinued ones) the best.

I'm stuck between two. I love my old hard handle snappys but I still use my craftsman classic hard handles I always feel like I can get a better purchase on them even with greased hands.

What do you mean? canada has special hard handles or something?

Not special, they were just made in Canada so instead of USA they are stamped Canada. Do not see them very often let alone a complete minty looking set.

Difficult question....all screwdrivers are somehow ergonomic and if it´s a quality brand it probably will last in a DIY environment....
The best is to buy one each and try them out :D

It's hard for me say of what I own is the best. Personally, I love SO hard handles, they are the go to screwdriver. That said, I have several witte sets under different names and I like those. I do find on crappy Phillips if the SO slips, if I stop right there and grab a witte, pretty good chance the witte will take it out. I have instinct drivers, I like hard handles better. I have the new Mac driver in long shanks. Seem nice, but there again, I like classic Mac hard handles.

Monte: that is a neat picture,, and I agree with the idea of buying one of each and trying them out.... I have used that method more than once, and have enjoyed the opportunity to try an assortment of tool brands...
My old yellow handled Classic ProTo and hard handle SnapOn sets were good choices; but other good choices are definitely available... Your picture is proof of that.

Proto Yellow Handle Professional Classics...

Discontinued, however...

Epstein's still has some...

www.harryepstein.com/index.php/18-pc-proto-screwdriver-set.html

All for $ 64.00---or, less than $ 4.00 each...Epstein's only has 2 big sets left!!!

I started with the boxed set, added the Phillips set and the Torx set...

The drawer photo are mine...

Best screwdrivers I've ever used/owned/had!!!

I like these as well even though I only have 1 phillips and its pretty small and long... heh... but I also have a Gasket Scraper that I picked up recently that has the same handle style just larger and I really like the way it sits in my hand!

Wera took some getting use to. Once you get how to use the grip, it is faster than any other. The laser tip cuts I thought was a gimmick. Then Started using them daily because it does grip so much better. Ive gone thru dozens of ph2 drivers. Wera brands last as long as big usa brands, just faster and better bite.

I'd consider those as the "new" Cman Pros. I think he means the older black handled ones. I agree, the old black handled ones are really great screwdrivers.

I'd love to get these but I'm concerned about the "cushion" grip absorbing everything and becoming a burden to keep clean. Hard handles I can clean.

And Amazon doesn't seem to have a complete set of sk screwdrivers like the 86316.

The more I look around the less I see the large sets like this

There are a ton of good screwdrivers out there. I just want a reasonably ergonomic handle and it has to have a hex shank that I can put a wrench on; that has made life easier more times than I can count.

Given that descriptor, Snap On takes the cake. But there are some others that are just as good.

Klein. I love my Wiha's but the selection is very limited in comparison to Klein. After 30 years of doing electrical work where driver apex fitment means all the difference in the world, they get the nod by a long shot.
I'm with you concerning Kleins.

I would choose this Wiha set.

.

I have this set and LOVE THEM! Use them everyday. I do double check the power when working on the electrical around the house or farm, for obvious reasons.
When it comes to everything else, I would have a hard time believing there is a better screwdriver. If anyone knows of a superior driver I want to buy one and find out if Im crazy, or there is something better.

For electrical work, it would be hard to beat Witte Maxxpro insulated screwdrivers, and they are reasonably priced:

Vessel Ball Grips are my vote.

How are the Ball Grips in actual use? I hate applying lots of torque on stuby drivers (can't grip it properly) and it seems like the ball would act just like a stuby...Was looking at picking up a set but that has stopped me

You can put a socket over the handle of craftsmans or most acetate handled screwdrivers.

You won't be able to get a ton of torque and I honestly don't think it would handle a ton of torque without breaking...but it's a very nice driver(they fit standard 2" bits with the indent). For $2.47 they're on sale at Sears(under the Craftsman name), they're a steal. I've bought 3 since they went on sale, great for everyday use.
