I love the old Proto Bet-R-Grips. Proto made a similar design up until recently, and their new DuraTek handle drivers get great reviews.

Got a set of these from a member here. Absolutely love them. Got them for DIRT cheap. These are second to none in all the screw drivers I've used. Top notch.

I've heard good things about these, and this set will cover basically anything you'll ever need.

I want to pick up a set eventually, right now I just have these.

Ugly, but the striking caps are nice.

BTW, Urrea still makes those yellow hard handles like the aforementioned Protos.

Personally, I've had terrible luck with Snapon tips, so I would avoid those and the Williams they make.

Do you have any of the Duratek drivers yet?

Me? No. But after seeing woodstockvas video on their chemical resistance, I'd get a set if I were starting out. Be nice to have a screwdriver that doesn't start to dissolve and stink in the tool box!:lol_hitti

I would suggest whittling down your choices of screwdriver sets you want, and then buying a single screwdriver from each set, all the same size. Some people love hard handles or a specific shape, but I wouldn't go dumping a load on a set of screwdrivers that you may not like in the end. I did this with about 4 types and settled on the Williams soft handles, threw a bunch of money at my computer, and couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase. I didn't even return my other screwdrivers, I just use them as beaters and pokers.

PBswiss are the best imo. a little pricey but the phillips fit better then anything else i've tried. Seriously the difference is night and day. even on screws that I thought were cammed out they work perfectly fine on. Before I had to apply a lot of pressure when turning the screw so it wouldn't slip but with the PBswiss I don't need to apply pressure. Just bite the bullet and spend a little extra you will be pleased I'm sure. I always wanted to get them but kept putting it off due to the cost but thought I'd splurge and try them, my only regret is I didn't get them sooner when they were cheaper.

Wera or Wiha. Used lots of snap on, hard and soft handle, craftsman, and various cheap brands but I love my Wera's in my tool bag and my Wiha's on the bench

Wera, Wiha, PB Swiss, and Snap On make some of the best screwdriver tips. What's different about them is they all have a different shaped handle that will fit your hand differently.

They usually don't include PH3 unless it's a real complete set; rarely gonna use it anyway. If you mean "I have one set of screwdrivers and they're in the garage", I'd say proto duratec, craftsman crystal, crescent duradrivers (US), or one of the wera sets (fairly cheap). If you mean "I'm cheap and need an extra set of screwdrivers for the garage" then craftsman crystal is the way to go for under 15 bucks.

My own opinion. You get the proto (or snap on) if you feel the above aren't good enough for you. Honestly, these should be okay for most people as long as you're using them as screwdrivers and other stuff as chisels, pry bars, or sets.

What type of work are you doing? Automotive work with oil/greasy hands? Woodworking? Around the house/general maintenance type stuff? Do you like hard handles or soft grip, an ergonomic grip or fluted? Hex bolster on not? Will this be your primary set or an addition one for specific type of work? How big are your hands?

We need more info.

In addition to what Jvitez said. I'd ask what your price range or what you'd like to pay for a set too.

Screwdrivers can be anywhere from 30 bucks for a 15 piece set of craftsman, to 50 bucks for a 5 piece set of Felo 550s, to 129 bucks for a 21 piece set from SK. Its all going to depend on the brand, set size, ongoing deals etc.

I'm biased because I sell them but TOPTUL's screwdrivers are fantastic. The make their handles from the same material that Wiha uses but the handles are shaped much better for a superior grip. And, they're 1/3 the price of Wiha. I've got a couple of sets up on EBay if you're interested. Personally, I like the ones with the hex bolster but all of their screwdrivers are great.

For my general use screwdrivers, I have a set of Williams black hard handles similar/same to the Snap-On hard handles. The handle sizes vary, with bigger handles on bigger drivers. The smaller Williams have anti-cam-out tips that seem to work well. For electrical work, I have some Kleins but I like my MasterMechanics with same size acetate handles on the long and short phillips and slotted shafts. I think they're made by Pratt-Reed.

I've also got miscellaneous garage sale specials for abusive use. But the one that I cannot ever go without is a 13" long keystone slotted Rosco Two-Fister (http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=171248). I carry that with me wherever I go when working.

My only fear with Tuptul, or any of the more "exotic" brands, is replacing one when it wears out.
No.2 phillips are basically disposable. Even the best ones wear out.

I just picked up a new no.2 Channellock code blue for $3.72 shipped. That wouldn't have been an option with a lot of brands.

I think that screwdrivers are the type of tool where you really wanna get a good feeling when you hold them and work with them.

Everyone has different tastes and different sized hands.

So my advice is that you go around and try some different models.
Or you can order home a couple different to try what works best for you.

Then you get to decide what quality you must have, if you ask most people here, I think you get the answer to a higher quality is preferable?

For me its WERA! But once again, its a personal reference....

Not the instinct handled ones I had had.
They were OK when they were new. But I wore them out in a matter of a few months.
Craftsman is the only softer screwdriver I've ever found.
