Screwdrivers...

So... I'm getting a better (non cheapo) set of screwdrivers. So far I see two options:
1: Get a full, comprehensive set of actual screwdrivers (Bost rebadged as Fatmax)
Normal + Torx

2: Get a Kraftform Kompakt with the long bits (that will do the same thing)
Kraftform Kompakt 62

Any ideas/comments? Does having 'proper' screwdrivers make that much of a difference?

I'll comment on two thing here...Most certainly having the proper screwdrivers matter. I am not one of those guys on here who has a specialty tool for everything, I just make it work...but in this case it's worth the investment to have the proper screwdrivers.

Also, I really like the Stanley FatMax screwdrivers, and we used them in a professional setting. I didn't think they'd be all that great, but I was wrong. I'd buy them for home use if I didn't get the Craftsman Pros

Well, I'm by no means the Snap-on market but after years of cheap screwdrivers I got myself a special line from Facom. That line I got is made to avoid rust (good for working on a boat etc... to avoid contaminating other screws) and so on, but I can say I simply love using these. The big flat one I even use as a chisel at times when.. well when the chisel is lost or too far away, and they look like new. I am very happy to have spent the extra money on that. I had a previous set from PB Swiss tools, and I managed to chip some of the tips on those ones, so not too happy and yet those are not for free either...

I'd head over to the "No BS screwdriver thread". That's a good place to get started.

I'm sure there will be other threads on this, but since you asked about the Wera Kraftform Kompakt driver and bits, I'll chime in. I bought the small set (six bits: phillips, pozidrive and slotted) for work because they looked like a good portable alternative to a full set of screwdrivers. I don't think they will substitute for a regular screwdriver except in light-duty applications. There's a surprising amount of slop in the coupling between the bit and handle. The bit deflects more than a couple of degrees with very little pressure. That said, I love the Wera Kraftform handle and have a set of the classics at home.

I don't know about that style of Stanley drivers but I have a semi-complete set of these in all sizes.

I consider them my second string drivers but am shocked at how often I grab them before my hard handle Snap-Ons. They are made in the UK

I have a couple of the chisels they have in that line. Pretty tough.

As for screwdrivers, I'm a big fan of the complete Wiha SoftFinish set, but YMMV...

I really like the French made Stanley/Bost Screwdrivers. I consider them on par with Wiha in terms of quality. The handles have a similar shape to one of the Wiha styles as well. I'd say go for the Bost.

If you need to use Phillips head screwdrivers, IMHO, there is no comparison to SO. SO has a patented bit design that does not slip like so many other high end screw drivers. I bought a set of Matco screwdrivers because I prefer the handle, but after having their phillips heads slip a few times, I brought them home to use as my home screwdrivers.
