Installing latch set that comes with two different types of screws for strike and face plates. Which screw typically goes into which plate? Omnia tech support has no clue.

I would put the longer ones in the striker (jamb side) as that will take all the force of anyone trying to open the door without turning the knob. The latch face plate really just retains it in the door and doesn't see much force in use.

Is this just an interior door?

As said above, replace with longer screws, 2 to 3 inch to get into the studs.
